About Thanes Creek
Thanes Creek is a rural locality in the Southern Downs Region, Queensland, situated about 40 kilometres west of Warwick along the Cunningham Highway. The locality is named after pioneer pastoralist John Thane, who drowned in the Condamine River in 1844. Mount Gammie rises to 672 metres in the east, and the area is known for its government-approved gold fossicking site, with grazing and some cropping as the main land uses.
