About Hallam

Hallam is a suburb in the City of Casey in south-east Melbourne, about 36 kilometres from the city centre on the Princes Highway. It takes its name from William Hallam, who settled in the district in 1856 and ran a store and hotel, with a railway station on the Melbourne to Gippsland line following in 1880. Once a farming district, Hallam grew rapidly from the 1980s as an industrial and residential area, bounded by Eumemmerring Creek and the Monash Freeway.
