About Monbulk
Monbulk is a town in the Dandenong Ranges, about 42 km east of Melbourne in the Shire of Yarra Ranges, whose name comes from the Wurundjeri word Monbolok, said to mean hiding place in the hills. The town was established in 1893 as a village settlement of small ten-acre farms, and its rich soils soon made berry growing a major industry, with the Monbulk Jam Factory operating from 1909 to 1990. Today the leading industries are nursery production and floriculture, with the flower wholesaler Tesselaar Flowers and the online nursery supplier Garden Express based in the town.
