About Kalorama

Kalorama is a residential suburb on the Mount Dandenong Tourist Road in the Dandenong Ranges of Melbourne, about 36 km east of the central business district, in the Shire of Yarra Ranges. First settled by Europeans around 1855, it takes its name from Kalorama House, a guest house built by the pioneer Jeeves family, from the Greek for 'beautiful view', a reference to the panorama across the Yarra Valley. Tourism has long driven the local economy, and Kalorama Park, bought from the Jeeves family, offers walking trails through mountain ash forest.
