About Moorabbin
Moorabbin is a suburb of Melbourne about 15 km south-east of the central city, in the City of Kingston. Its name is believed to come from a Bunurong word meaning mother's milk, from the springs of the area, and the district was a farming and market-garden centre whose sandy soils supplied much of Melbourne's fruit and vegetables. The railway reached Moorabbin in 1881, and the eastern side of the suburb has been an industrial area since the mid-1960s. Moorabbin Oval hosted St Kilda football games from 1965 until 1992 and has served as the club's training base.
