About Kew East

Kew East is a suburb of Melbourne about 8 km east of the central city, in the City of Boroondara, bounded on its northern side by the Yarra River. It grew from the small farming estates that followed the government land auctions of the 1840s, when Willsmere and other properties lined the river flats. The suburb expanded with trams and railways, including the now-closed Outer Circle line, and its heritage includes the East Kew baby health centre of 1925, the earliest purpose-built centre of its kind in Victoria. The Main Yarra Trail follows the river through the suburb.
