About Kew (Vic.)
Kew is a residential suburb about 5 km east of central Melbourne in the City of Boroondara, bordered on the west and north by the Yarra River. Its name, adopted for a subdivision in the 1850s, echoes the relationship between London's Kew and Richmond. Studley Park, named for settler John Hodgson's Yorkshire birthplace, preserves bushland along the river and contains the Studley Park Boathouse (1863), the oldest continually operating public boathouse in Victoria.
