About Lake Austin
Lake Austin is a locality in the Mid West region of Western Australia, surrounding the large ephemeral salt lake of the same name about 21 kilometres south of Cue and 55 kilometres north of Mount Magnet. The lake, named after the explorer Robert Austin, contains the abandoned town of Austin on an island crossed by the Great Northern Highway, and its surrounds are used for mining and pastoralism.
