About Dudawa

Dudawa is a rural locality in the Shire of Three Springs of the Mid West region of Western Australia, located about 272 kilometres from Perth. The landscape features wheatbelt and sandplain country with dense scrub typical of the Three Springs district, with European settlement beginning in 1906 when Lindsay McKinnon cut a track from Arrino railway siding. The Dudawa Dam was completed in 1908 holding 3,400 cubic yards of water, and during World War Two the Tamma Mia airstrip gained strategic importance reportedly noted by Japanese military intelligence. Talc was discovered locally leading to a landmark High Court case ruling that payments were compensation for land disturbance rather than taxable royalties, and state heritage-listed school and water reserve sites remain.
