About Mardie
Mardie is a pastoral and mining locality on the Pilbara coast of Western Australia, near the mouth of the Fortescue River in the City of Karratha. It is the site of Mardie Station, established in 1866 by the Denison Plains Pastoral Company and run for more than a century as sheep and cattle country; a cyclone in 1945 destroyed the homestead and woolsheds and killed thousands of sheep. The station was bought in 2007 by Citic Pacific Mining, and iron-ore mining now operates in the locality.
