About Tarrington
Tarrington is a village in south-west Victoria on the Hamilton Highway, about 9 km east of Hamilton. Founded from the early 1850s by German Lutheran settlers from South Australia, it was first known as German Town and then Hochkirch before being renamed Tarrington in 1918 during the anti-German feeling of the First World War. The village is dominated by St Michael's Lutheran Church, built in 1927, and still celebrates its German heritage with an annual festival and hay-bale art.
