About Panmure
Panmure is a town in the Shire of Moyne in south-west Victoria, on the Princes Highway halfway between Terang and Warrnambool. It was established in the 1850s, when timbercutters cleared the native forest for sawmills and the high-rainfall country gave rise to a dairy industry that continues today. The railway arrived in 1890, and Mount Emu Creek runs through the town, forming a popular swimming hole. The district was badly affected by the Ash Wednesday bushfires of 1983.
