About Elingamite
Elingamite is a rural locality in Corangamite Shire in the Western District of Victoria, 7 km south-west of Cobden, where the western plains meet the once-forested hill country around Cobden and Timboon. Named after nearby Lake Elingamite, the locality was taken up as a pastoral run in 1845, with farming settlement spreading through the 1860s. A school opened in 1874, and a rail line from Timboon to Cobden opened through the locality in 1892, improving access to markets for dairy produce and timber.
