About Camperdown (Vic.)
Camperdown is a town on the Western District volcanic plains of Victoria, about 190 kilometres west of Melbourne, and the administrative centre of Corangamite Shire. It sits at the foot of the extinct volcanic cone Mount Leura, surrounded by crater lakes such as Bullen Merri and Gnotuk. The town was named in 1850 by Charles La Trobe after Admiral Adam Duncan, Earl of Camperdown.
