About Apollo Bay (Vic.)
Apollo Bay is a coastal town on the Great Ocean Road in south-western Victoria, on the eastern side of Cape Otway where the Barham River meets the sea. It began as a timber-cutting settlement in the 1850s and later developed as a fishing port and holiday resort, and is now a base for visitors to the Otway Ranges and the Shipwreck Coast. In winter southern right whales can be seen in the waters offshore.
