About Tungamah

Tungamah is a town in the Goulburn Valley of northern Victoria, about 29 km from Yarrawonga and the Murray River, set on the banks of Boosey Creek. The name is thought to come from an Aboriginal word for the wild brush turkey, and the town, gazetted in 1875, boomed after the railway arrived in 1886, at one point supporting six hotels. A Mechanics' Institute of 1883 and water towers designed by John Monash in 1909 survive from that era.
