About Watchem

Watchem is a rural town in north-western Victoria on the Sunraysia Highway, about 35 km from Donald in the Shire of Buloke, on the railway line to Mildura. Its name possibly comes from an Aboriginal word for the wattle that grows near Watchem Lake, a gathering place of the Banynong people. The first farm selections date from 1873, the township site was granted in 1875, and the railway reached the town in 1893.
