About Quantong
Quantong is a rural locality about 15 kilometres west of Horsham in the Wimmera region. Established as an irrigation colony in 1892, the name derives from the numerous quandong trees cleared for farming, and between 1918 and 1938 the area was the Wimmera's principal fruit and vegetable growing district. Most orchards converted to dairying and fat lambs after weakening prices in the 1960s.
