About Nangiloc

Nangiloc is a rural locality on the south bank of the Murray River in the Rural City of Mildura, about fifty kilometres south-east of Mildura in north-west Victoria. Its name is Colignan spelt backwards, Colignan itself thought to be the name of a local Aboriginal leader. The district was established as a soldier-settlement scheme after the First World War, with blocks surveyed from Carwarp Station in 1921, a post office opening in 1922 and a school in 1932. Reticulated electricity from 1957 encouraged private irrigation from the Murray, and the area is now known for citrus orchards and gourmet food and wine production.
