About Lake Bolac
Lake Bolac is a town in the Western District of Victoria, about 91 km west of Ballarat, on the shores of Lake Bolac where the Glenelg Highway passes through the town. The name derives from bulluc, meaning swamp or lake in the Djab Wurrung language. The lake, on the traditional lands of the Girai wurrung people, drew large gatherings for the annual short-finned eel migration, and is still popular with anglers. Near the town is the Lake Bolac stone arrangement, an Aboriginal ceremonial site shaped like a giant stone eel.
