About Jeffcott
Jeffcott is a rural locality in the North West region of Victoria, featuring Mount Jeffcott, an isolated hill of ancient Cambrian strata rising 262 metres above sea level, believed to have been left standing when the sea retreated from the Murray Basin. The landscape features flats country on the Wimmera and Mallee fringe, and the first European settlers were the Donald brothers who established Banyenong East Station in 1844. Mount Jeffcott was declared a reserve as early as 1875 and gazetted as a Flora Reserve in 1972, featuring rare orchids, ferns, kangaroos, wallabies, and echidnas.
