About Carapooee

Carapooee is a rural locality in north-central Victoria, situated about 12 kilometres south-east of St Arnaud and crossed by Carapooee and Strathfillan Creeks. Gold was discovered there in 1858, drawing up to 1,300 miners to what was then known as Peter's Diggings, though the settlement later shifted to agriculture and grazing. The heritage-listed Church of England, built from locally gathered pebbles in 1868, is a notable landmark.
