About Mornington (Vic.)
Mornington is a seaside town on the Mornington Peninsula, about 46 km south-east of Melbourne, renowned for its bay beaches, foreshore promenade and nearby wineries. First settled in the 1840s and known as Schnapper Point, it was renamed in 1864, and its 46-metre pier, opened in 1858, long served as the peninsula's gateway to Melbourne for steamers and day trippers. Historic buildings include the 1861 courthouse and the 1846 Briars homestead.
