About Tarneit
Tarneit is a suburb in the City of Wyndham, about 25 km west of Melbourne's central business district. Named from a Wathaurong word for 'white' when its parish was surveyed in 1839-1840, it remained a sparsely settled farming district on the basalt Werribee Plains until residential subdivision began in earnest in the early 2000s. The opening of Tarneit railway station on the Regional Rail Link in 2015 cemented its growth into a multicultural commuter suburb.
