About Deer Park

Deer Park is a suburb about 17 km west of Melbourne's CBD, in the City of Brimbank. It was originally known as Kororoit Creek, after the creek running through it, and was renamed in the 1880s after the Melbourne Hunt Club kept a stock of deer there. The suburb grew up around the railway (1884) and Melbourne's first explosives factory, established on Kororoit Creek in the 1870s, and expanded rapidly into a residential and industrial area after World War II.
