About Yannathan
Yannathan is a rural locality on the edge of the former Koo Wee Rup Swamp in the Shire of Cardinia, about 9 km north-east of Lang Lang. Its name comes from an Aboriginal word meaning "to walk about". Farm selections from the late 1870s followed drainage of the swamp, and dairying and potato growing supported a local butter factory from 1900 to 1930 and a branch railway line from 1922 to 1950.
