About Cannons Creek
Cannons Creek is a foreshore town at the top of Western Port Bay, about 55 km south-east of Melbourne in the City of Casey. Its name most likely comes from the Cannon family's farm at the head of the creek. The area began as a fishing camp in the 1930s, with the first permanent house built in 1940. Saltmarsh, mangroves and intertidal flats fringe the shore, part of the Western Port Ramsar wetland and protected in the Yaringa Marine National Park, on the traditional country of the Boonwurrung people.
