About Lyndhurst (Vic.)

Lyndhurst is a suburb in Melbourne's south-east, about 36 km from the central business district, straddling the boundary between Dandenong and Cranbourne. The parish was named after Baron Lyndhurst, an English Lord Chancellor, and its town was proclaimed in 1861, growing around a station on the South Gippsland railway line opened in 1888. Residential development since the 1980s has filled the suburb, while the land west of the Western Port Highway remains green-wedge countryside.
