About Clarinda

Clarinda is a suburb in the City of Kingston, about 18 km south-east of Melbourne's central business district. The area was once coastal heathland and was first occupied under a squatting licence taken out by John O'Shannessy in the early 1840s. Clarinda's post office operated from 1911 until 1971 and reopened in 1984 when the suburb was developed. It is now a multicultural suburb with communities from the Philippines, India, Greece, Cambodia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
