About Beaconsfield (Vic.)
Beaconsfield, known to the Boonwurrung people as Kemgrim, is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, 44 kilometres south-east of the central business district, within the City of Casey and the Shire of Cardinia. It grew from a farming settlement on the Panty Gurn Gurn run, clustered around Bowman's Inn, a coaching stop on the road to Gippsland. Gold was found in the gullies north of Beaconsfield in the 1870s, and a railway station opened in 1879.
