About Ashwood
Ashwood is a residential suburb of Melbourne, about 14 km south-east of the central business district in the City of Monash, lying between Ashburton and Burwood and named after a combination of the two. Until the early 1950s its western boundary at Warrigal Road was the edge of the built-up area, with market gardens and poultry farms beyond. Housing development gathered pace after the Second World War, with the Glen Waverley railway line, opened in 1930, providing commuter access.
