About Warranwood
Warranwood is a residential suburb in Melbourne's outer east, located within the City of Maroondah approximately 28 kilometres from the central business district. Situated on elevated, undulating terrain at an elevation of 128 metres, the suburb is bordered by Warrandyte South to the north and Ringwood North to the south. Its name is a portmanteau of Warrandyte and Ringwood, coined in 1946 when the South Warrandyte Progress Association sought an official name for the locality, which had previously been known as "Croydon Heights." The area was historically used for agriculture and market gardens before undergoing post-war residential development. Warranwood features significant native vegetation, with Warranwood Reserve along Jumping Creek supporting Grassy Dry Forest, Herb-rich Foothill Forest, and Swampy Riparian Woodland, home to over 180 plant species and wildlife including black swamp wallabies.
