About Sherbrooke
Sherbrooke is a locality in the Shire of Yarra Ranges about 35 kilometres east of Melbourne. Permanent European settlement began with Robert W. Graham, a former sea captain known as the father of Sherbrooke, who built his house Merrimu there and named the area after Sherbrooke near his former home in Canada; he discovered Sherbrooke Falls and served as the first postmaster from 1894 until his death in 1918. Sherbrooke Forest, a cool temperate rainforest, is home to mountain ash trees and populations of lyrebirds.
