About Macedon
Macedon is a town at the foot of Mount Macedon in the Macedon Ranges of central Victoria, between Melbourne and Bendigo. The mountain, named in 1836 after Philip of Macedon, gave the town its name, and the settlement grew after the railway arrived in 1861. From the 1870s the cool forested slopes became a summer resort of grand homes and gardens for wealthy Melburnians, and the hill-station gardens are nationally significant. Much of the town was rebuilt after the 1983 Ash Wednesday fires.
