About Woodend (Vic.)

Woodend is a town in the Macedon Ranges of Victoria, located about halfway between Melbourne and Bendigo and bypassed by the Calder Freeway. It grew in the 1850s as a stopping place on the road to the Castlemaine and Bendigo goldfields, and its main street retains historic buildings from that era. The town is known for the Woodend Winter Arts Festival, held each June, and as a base for visiting nearby Hanging Rock and Mount Macedon.
