About Lancefield

Lancefield is a town in the Shire of Macedon Ranges in Victoria, about 69 kilometres north of Melbourne, surrounded by rolling agricultural country. It retains a heritage streetscape of Victorian-era buildings and wide, tree-lined avenues, and hosts a well-known monthly farmers market. The Burke and Wills expedition camped at Lancefield in August 1860 on its journey north, and megafauna bones discovered at Lancefield Swamp in 1843 drew international scientific attention. The nearby Mount William quarry is a significant Aboriginal stone-axe site.
