About Newham
Newham is a village in the Shire of Macedon Ranges, Victoria, about 8 kilometres north-east of Woodend and north of the Mount Macedon range, on the route between Woodend and Lancefield. It was named after the Newham pastoral run of 1848, itself named after the English birthplace of its proprietor. Settled reputedly by Scottish farmers, it grew as a service town with a school (1860), a three-storey flour mill (1866), churches, hotels and a post office, and lies a few kilometres from Hanging Rock.
