About Eaglemont
Eaglemont is a leafy residential suburb 10 km north-east of Melbourne, bounded by the Yarra River and situated between Heidelberg and Ivanhoe East. It grew from the Mount Eagle Estate and in the late 1880s was a favourite camp of the Heidelberg School of artists, where Arthur Streeton painted Golden Summer, Eaglemont in 1889. Suburban development followed the opening of the railway station in 1926, and part of the suburb was laid out by the architect Walter Burley Griffin.
