About Mentone
Mentone is an established residential suburb in the City of Kingston in Melbourne, Victoria, situated 21 kilometres south-east of the Melbourne central business district. The suburb was founded as a resort town named after the Italian spelling of the French town Menton, with many streets named after Italian cities, and is associated with the Heidelberg School of Australian artists where Tom Roberts, Frederick McCubbin and Arthur Streeton painted on Mentone Beach in the 1880s. Mentone features a lively shopping strip along Como Parade West and Balcombe Road, several prestigious schools and the Mentone Beach foreshore along Port Phillip Bay.
