About Yarram

Yarram is a town in South Gippsland on the flat coastal plain beside the Tarra River, on the South Gippsland Highway about 170 km south-east of Melbourne, with the Strzelecki Ranges to the north and west. Known as Yarram Yarram until 1924, the name comes from an Aboriginal phrase said to mean 'plenty of water'. The township grew from a private landholding named Barkly in 1853, becoming a service centre for the surrounding dairying and cattle country.
