About Longford (Vic.)
Longford is a town in the Gippsland region of Victoria, at the junction of the South Gippsland Highway and the Longford-Rosedale Road beside the Latrobe River. It was named for the long ford across the rivers on the way to Sale, where a new bridge over the flood-prone river replaced the historic Sale Swing Bridge in 2006. Longford is the onshore processing point for Bass Strait oil and gas, piped 700 km from offshore fields, a facility that supplies gas to the Victorian network.
