About Sale
Sale is a city in the Gippsland region of Victoria, about 212 km east of Melbourne, the main town and council seat of the Shire of Wellington, set on a wetland system near the junction of the Thomson and Latrobe rivers. Settled from the 1840s and known as Flooding Creek until 1854, it grew rapidly after gold discoveries at Omeo. The town's navigation history lives on in the Sale Canal, completed in 1890, and the Sale Swing Bridge of 1883, the first movable bridge built in Victoria. RAAF Base East Sale, opened in 1943, is the home of the Roulettes aerobatic team.
