About Aberfeldy
Aberfeldy is a locality on Mount Lookout in the Great Dividing Range of Victoria, on the ridge between the Thomson and Aberfeldy rivers, about 125 km east of Melbourne. It grew as a goldfield township, first known as Mount Lookout, after reef gold was discovered in 1871, and at its peak had a population of around 500. After the mines declined the district turned to sheep and cattle grazing and potato growing, and remains of the gold-rush era buildings survive.
