About Whitlands

Whitlands is a rural locality in the King Valley of Victoria, located about 184 kilometres from Melbourne on the Mansfield-Whitfield Road in the Wangaratta Rural City. The Whitlands High Plateau is a 12 to 16 kilometre long high-altitude ridge at 700 to 900 metres elevation, composed of tertiary volcanic soil overlaying a basalt cap created by a volcano approximately 70 million years ago. The area is known for vineyards producing grapes at among the highest altitude in Australia, growing Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio, and Riesling, alongside horticulture famed for berries and blueberries. Powers Lookout offers views of the King Valley 300 metres below.
