About Walwa
Walwa is a town in the Shire of Towong in north-east Victoria, beside the Murray River on the former Murray Valley Highway between Wodonga and Corryong. The name comes from an Aboriginal word meaning "a place of waters". Tin prospecting brought miners to the area in the 1860s, while dairying and grazing shaped the surrounding district. Walwa is now a popular base for Murray cod fishing, kayaking, swimming and riverside camping on the Upper Murray, close to Burrowa-Pine Mountain National Park.
