About Pine Mountain (Vic.)
Pine Mountain is a rural locality in the Hume region of Victoria, located about 10 kilometres southeast of Walwa and 440 kilometres northeast of Melbourne. The locality is dominated by Pine Mountain itself, a gigantic red granite monolith said to be 1.5 times bigger than Uluru, rising to 1,062 metres and uplifted over 2 million years ago. Part of the Burrowa-Pine Mountain National Park, the mountain features over 200 native plants including 19 rare species such as Pine Mountain grevillea and phantom wattle, with black cypress pines and kurrajongs fringing granite outcrops, and 180 bird species alongside black wallabies, kangaroos, wombats, and lyrebirds.
