About Pyalong
Pyalong is a town in central Victoria on the Northern Highway, in the Shire of Mitchell, about 90 km from Melbourne, on the traditional lands of the Taungurung people. Settled as a pastoral station in 1838, the township was surveyed and proclaimed in 1854 and later served by a station on the Heathcote railway line from 1890 until the line closed in 1968. Until 1994 it was the seat of the Shire of Pyalong, once Victoria's smallest municipality by population.
