About Mudgegonga
Mudgegonga is a small rural locality in the alpine high country of north-east Victoria, approximately 15 kilometres north-east of Myrtleford in the Ovens Valley. Barwidgee Creek flows through the area, which is nestled in a valley surrounded by granite hills with views toward Mount Buffalo, 25 kilometres to the south. The locality is notable for the Mudgegonga rock shelter, one of Victoria's richest Aboriginal rock art sites with over 400 ochre paintings dating back more than 3,500 years.
