About Moriac
Moriac is a town in the Surf Coast Shire of Victoria, located 22 kilometres west of Geelong on the volcanic plains between Geelong and Winchelsea. Named after the extinct volcano Mount Moriac that rises to 270 metres nearby, the town serves as a satellite village for Geelong commuters and features a primary school, hotel and general store. The railway through Moriac opened in 1876 and the area is associated with AFL players Gary Ablett Jr and Nathan Ablett, who grew up in the Moriac and Modewarre area.
