About Maude (Vic.)
Maude is a rural locality in the Golden Plains Shire of Victoria, about 92 km south-west of Melbourne and 28 km south-east of Geelong, between the Moorabool River and Sutherland Creek. A school served the district from 1874 until 1989 and a post office operated from 1862 until 1951. After its early vineyards were lost to phylloxera, vineyards returned from the early 1970s alongside sheep grazing and cereal growing.
